Three ways to stay healthy and active, whilst working from home.

Something that's more topical than ever is how to stay healthy and active whilst working from home.

Personally, I'm spending significantly more time in front of the screen; programming, messaging clients, reviewing videos etc and it's very easy for time to slip by and not realise how long I've been sitting for. Or even realise the terrible posture I've found myself slumped it.

So, what I've been trying to do is every two hours or so get up, grab a snack (bulking life) and walk around the block. It takes me less than ten minutes to do this but just that little bit of movement to get the blood flowing, really helps me stay alert and gives me something to work towards each two hour block.

If that's not possible or if you need to stay inside, go outdoors to the patio or garden for a bit, each time you do, perform the five best push ups you've ever done and a couple of squats or stretches in the fresh air. If you have a basketball hoop (or something like that), maybe head outside and sink a couple of free throws before getting back to work. Be creative, whatever motivates you to get up will work best for you!

Secondly, meal prep. While we’re working from home it can be easy to say "Oh, I don't need to do this anymore I can just prepare on the day" but from what I've seen, not having food prepared leads to more Uber Eats, take-away or snacking all day!

Keeping up the regular habits you had a month or so ago is so important to not let you fall off the band wagon. You snack all day, eat crap food, then 5pm rolls around and suddenly you lack the energy to train, so you sit on the couch, snack some more, binge Netflix and the cycle repeats! Find those daily habits you had at the office and bring them home, or if you didn't have any, start working and building on them now!

And finally, goals! I know we come from a gym where strength is a high priority but with 2/3 of you without a barbell measuring this will be tougher than usual. In saying this, your AR Coaches are doing their best to provide you with top programming anyway! Having your own little goals to work on each day or every other day can really aid your motivation levels. I watched this video of a guy who ran one mile a day every day (some days fast but most days not) to see how much he could improve and he went from a 7:22 to a 6:06 in just a month. Now I'm not advocating for everyone to do that, but find something that you want to work on, talk to your Coach about what you can do and what advice they can give to help you work on this!
